Exercise
Residents are encouraged to join in the exercising activities we have to offer at Coxbench Hall.
Exercise classes are run three times a week, led the ‘Let’s Get Active’ team. Everyone can join in this fun and enjoyable seated or standing exercise which aids movement, promotes a healthy heart and independent standing, which reduces falls.
We also have Seated Yoga on Wednesday mornings in the Entertainment lounge for those to take part if they wish to do so. this includes breathing and relaxation giving skills to aid with sleep patterns which residents have requested.
Keep active by taking part in a group activity such as Carpet Boules, or stretch your legs by taking a walk in the delightful, extensive grounds to exploring the winding pathways, lawns, mature plants and many seating areas to rest and enjoy the views.
Games
We have plenty of board games, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and we have arts and craft items for the creative amongst our residents. The Games cupboards are accessible for all to enjoy whenever they feel like doing something.
We often have a group quiz that is always very popular, as well as Bingo and Quiz Ball.
Crafts
We have seasonal crafts throughout the year that cater for everyone from painting to wreath making. Craft Club is currently Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons weekly.
Jumping clay from Markeaton Craft Village visits once a month and we make air dry clay models. The Jasmine scent of the clay is relaxing and the making of the models helps with dexterity of fingers. This is especially beneficial for residents who have arthritis.
The Coxbench Bake-off takes place every Wednesday and Saturday giving Residents chance to showcase their baking and cooking skills.
Social
For Residents who want to take part we have regular events to join in with such as, birthday parties, garden parties, Bingo, sing-a-longs around the piano, quizzes, ‘share-a-film’ Fridays.
Themed Resident’s Dinners are held on the last Wednesday of every month. Residents can invite guests to these and enjoy great food and professional entertainment.
Residents have asked if they can visit the local cafes, garden centres and shops so therefore our mini bus goes out to these locations Thursday afternoons for the residents to socialise together and also meet their friends and families at the destinations to enjoy some times together.
Visiting entertainment
We are regularly visited by outside entertainment in the form of singers, musicians, speakers, story tellers and even magicians.
The local church as recommended by the residents visits on the last Friday of the month and conducts a service for all religions. On Sundays we tend to have Hymns on in morning in the conservatory followed by a glass of Sherry. We conduct our own special services on and Remembrance Day, Christmas and Easter.
More weekly visitors include the Let’s Get Active team, a professional hairdresser, and Teddy, the very popular little dog of one of our Directors.
We also have a reflexologist/ Holistic therapist who visits fortnightly.
During December we have a flurry of festive entertainers such as carolling and visits from Santa. We have been hosting our own pantomime since 2020 and the year comes to an end with a wonderful New Year’s Eve party in the afternoon for all to enjoy.
