December 2020 Newsletter

The festive season is upon us and we are all getting ready for Christmas, all be it in a very different manner to usual

crafting Christmas decoration
Lovely handmade decoration by one of the Residents here

Here at Coxbench Hall Residential Care Home, the Ladies and Gentlemen have been busy making decorations for the Home and numerous Christmas trees have been placed around the communal rooms and decorated with lights, tinsel and bright baubles. In addition, our Director Keith, braved the use of a cherry picker to put lights high up in the tree outside the main entrance and also a projector light onto the front of the Home. It definitely looks “a lot like Christmas”.

Whilst we remain under lockdown, we have undertaken a lot of activities within the Home to make this time a special one for our residents, adapting festive events that would usually involve outsiders coming into the Home, being done by our tremendous staff team. These events have included:

  • We hosted our first Christmas Shopping Event in the Home where the Residents could browse and buy little gifts and cards for their loved ones in our shop set up in the Hook Room. This included a free gift wrapping service as well – would be good if all shops did this!
  • We held a free in-house tombola one afternoon where residents won some brilliant prizes and they all had a great time.
  • One of our Residents also decided to bring some cheer to everyone with an impromptu sing along and guitar solo! We have the video of the performance on our Facebook if you would like to look.
  • On Wednesday 16th December, the acting and stage skills of some of our staff team, were shown off in a performance of Cinderella (with a few Covid twists and jokes!) followed by singing some carols. Who will you be able to recognise in their disguise? The performance will also be shown on the Facebook page if you would like to join in.

Decoration of the communal rooms in the Home continues with the main stairs and landings now completed. The walls now have light striped wallpaper on the top half of the walls and cream paintwork underneath, with white ceilings and woodwork. This was a very large project and we apologise for the inconvenience caused whilst these stairs were not in use, we thank you for your patience during these times.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to celebrate in the usual way, our long service awards for our staff, due to the cancellation of the Residents Dinners and the Staff Team meetings. However, we held a presentation for all the 2020 long service awards after the Christmas Pantomime and would like to thank the following for their years of hard work and dedication here at Coxbench:

15 Years:     Hayley (Senior Care), Rachel (Accounts Controller) & Karen (Domestic)

5 Years:       Jeanette (Senior Care), Angela (Care Aide), Ann (Night Care),

Lynda (Domestic) & Scott (Kitchen & Night Domestic)

We are very proud to have staff with such long service and we know that the residents appreciate seeing the same faces. The average length of service for our whole staff team is over 5 years which, in this industry, is very high. We would like to thank all the staff team for their hard work and dedication, particularly during these difficult times and all the residents’ families and friends for their patience and understanding whilst not being able to visit their loved one’s.

We send you our best wishes for the festive season and for the New Year.
